Make a dental crown

Preparing the tooth for the crown step by step.

Teeth that are eligible for crown (porcelain, all-ceramic, on zirconium or metal foundation) are damaged, broken teeth with very large fillings - there is a possibility of breaking a tooth, curved teeth (crowns can be as a form of correction for curved teeth, but only to some extent) and teeth that are prepared as a pillar under the prosthetic bridge.

Each tooth, on which the crown is to be put on, must be polished, i.e. each of its dimensions must be diminished so that later a crown can be put on it (in the form of "hat"), and finally a new tooth does not differ from the others and ideally fit the neighboring and opposing teeth. Grinding a tooth is a pain free procedure - it is always performed under anesthesia.

The tooth to be crowned must of course be healthy "inside". Often the teeth prepared for the foundation of the crown require root canal treatment: for sure it is required for very damaged teeth, several times already rebuilt. Teeth that require significant grinding are also treated by root canal. Some of the teeth treated with root canal require strengthening with crown-root inserts, because over time, they lose their flexibility and there is a risk of breaking them.

After the possible treatment of the tooth, its strengthening and grinding, the doctor must secure the tooth, because it is very sensitive (live tooth), and of course that the patient does not have to walk with such a "strange stump" in the mouth for a few days until the new crown will be ready. The doctor in the dental cabinet performs a temporary crown, which the patient "wears" until the target work is done. After a few days when the crown is ready, the patient first "tries it on" and checks whether everything fits: whether the color is well-chosen, whether its shape suits him, the doctor in turn checks the tightness of the crown and fit to neighboring teeth, as well as to the counter-teeth. Then the crown is permanently cemented and the work is finished.

Of course, the crowns are not "made" as "wholesale" by the prosthetist ... During the visits impressions are taken, the patient chooses the color and shape of the crown to make the new tooth perfectly fit and not different from the others.
