Mammography after breast augmentation surgery.

Mammography is a very important test for every woman, which is performed regularly and often saves lives.

It allows for the diagnosis of neoplastic lesions and other breast pathologies.
Doctors recommend women at a certain age to do mammography every two years, to detect any changes early.

Many women who are considering breast implants are afraid that in the future they will not be able to perform mammography or the test will not be accurate enough due to the presence of a foreign body in the breast (implant).

There is really nothing to fear. Mammography for women with breast implants is performed just as it is for the other female patients. In addition to the standard examination in 2 planes, in women with implants the thoracic examination is performed in two successive planes. The rule is to arrange the breast so that the implant is moved as far as possible away from the glandular tissue.
The most important thing is that the patient informs the person who completes the test, before it starts, about having breast implants. It will then be possible to select the optimal parameters and obtain the image with the highest possible accuracy.

Can the implant be damaged during mammography?

The second issue that often worries women before the mammography examination is the question: Will the implant damage?

During mammography, the breasts are squeezed, which raises the patients' fears. However, here we calm down: the pressure forces used during mammography are not strong enough to fracture the implant (the force that may cause the implant damage is for example a blow during a communication accident).
