Size and shape of the nipple

Breast nipple & Surgery

About us - plastic surgery and dental treatment in Poland

One of our innate, individual features, which we have no influence on is shape and size of the nipple and its areola.

Wart nipple is the outlet of milk ducts, it is a convex part of the mammary gland

Nipple wrap is a darker, transformed skin around the nipple.

Some women have nothing to complain about this aspect of beauty, other do not like their nipples, the capillaries of warts - they are the source of many complexes for them.
Often the shape/ size of warts or their areolas change with age or after breastfeeding. There are women who do not mind it at all, but they are also women, for whom this can be a significant problem.

It is very rare that nipple warts and areolas are perfectly symmetrical (same with breasts). Often the differences in their structure are minimal, unnoticeable at the first glance. The problem arises when the areolas or nipple warts are significantly different from each other and their size or shape strongly disturbs the harmony of the breasts - for some ladies it can be a big complex. Changes can also occur over the years or after breastfeeding.

The most common 'imperfections' within the nipple warts and areolas that make women to seek help from a plastic surgeon are:

  • excessivelly drawn out (elongated, protruding) wart,
  • excessively pulled in (sunken, concave) wart,
  • too large nipple areola (not matching proportionally to breast size).

The surgical correction of the shape and size of the wart is a procedure in the field of aesthetic surgery, there are rarely health indications for this type of intervention.

Pulled in warts
They are not only aesthetic defects, but sometimes they can cause problems or even more, these problems can prevent breastfeeding - disrupt the functionality of the breasts

Protruding nipples
They are aesthetic problems for many women, however, a simple surgery can solve this problem. The most commonly used technique of 'shortening' the nipple does not involve an intersection of milk ducts, therefore, breastfeeding in a later time should not be disturbed.

Too large nipple areolas
They can significantly influence the harmonious appearance of the breasts, and thus even the prettiest breasts may seem look unpleasant and unattractive. During the procedure, an incision is usually made at the site of areola skin "connection", which makes the scars after the surgery virtually invisible.

Contraindications to the treatment:
  • blood clotting problems,
  • autoimmune diseases,
  • bad general health condition,
  • chronic infections,
  • pregnancy,
  • women in whom breast ulatrsound showed lesions are not eligible for surgery.

Surgical correction of warts and nipple areolas is usually performed under local anesthesia or anesthetic sedation (the decision about the type of anesthesia used is always taken during medical consultation)

After the procedure, the patient may experience pain, also swelling and/ or bruising may occur.
However, all ailments disappear within a few days after the procedure.
